Famous people are people too...

A few weekends ago I added yet another celebrity to my ever growing list of famous people who I've met. My sister, our friend and I went to see a John Michael Montgomery concert (you know...the country singer...who was more popular about 15 years ago...) in Primm at Buffalo Bill's resort. The tickets were free so we decided to go. He put on an entertaining performance, albeit a little short but I sang along to all of the songs I knew. After we hung out in the casino for a little while and attempted to buy a scratch ticket in California, we ended up in the gas station right across the street from the resort. As we were picking out snacks my sister calls out to me and I begrudgingly head over to the aisle where she is. She proceeds to tell me quietly, "John Michael Montgomery is riiiight there!!!" I take a peek at this guy who was buying coffee from the automated machine and sure enough, I agreed that it was him. So, over walks this guy in our direction. He's got on a camouflage hat with sunglasses perched on the brim, khaki shorts, a hunting t-shirt, and slip on shoes. Oh! And I can't forget to mention the sock tan he had going on. I stop him (poor guy, just trying to buy his coffee in peace!) and tell him we just saw his show. At first, he tried to be sneaky and pretend like he didn't know what I was talking about. He finally admitted it and with that I patted him on his arm and told him that his dimples gave him away. Only I, apparently, would pat a 6 ft. 3 in. tall country music singer who has sold about 15 million records. Gotta keep it real. After a brief introduction of myself, he proceeded to shake my sister and friend's hands. He got his coffee and we guessed he sped on down the highway to a bar in Vegas - but we don't know for sure. I left with my Reese's Pieces and yet another celebrity encounter.

Skip back to 2 weekends ago when my friend and I went to Town Square to eat at CPK. Next thing we know we stumble upon a red carpet and a step and repeat being set up. Cut to me spotting Mark Long. (MTV Mark Long - you'd know him if you saw him) I walk up to him with the oh so casual opening line, "MTV Mark, right?" He tells us to stick around because there will be an event featuring a whole bunch of reality stars. Now, as a preface I am not a huge fan of reality TV but it is entertaining nonetheless. So, as it turns out we stuck around and met a whole slew of people who were on Big Brother and the Amazing Race and Survivor. The most memorable people we met were Dan of Jordan, the most recent $1 million winners of the Amazing Race and Hayden who just won $500,000 on Big Brother a few weeks ago. It was pretty cool.

Living in Las Vegas my whole life has had it's perks. I can't even remember all of the famous folks I've run into over the years but I can recall a few of the cool ones. At the airport one time when I was younger I spotted Ray Charles. I recognized him from the Pepsi commercials. Ha. I met Colin Powell in the lobby of the Hotel at Mandalay Bay. He might be one of my most favorite guys! That was pretty cool. Three days ago Siegfried of Siegfried and Roy was power walking on the track at my gym. And then of course some of the stand out encounters include Jude Law and Johnny Lee Miller. Both of whom my sister and I had a run in with at the Ivy in Los Angeles. I never actually spoke to them but we stood next to each other at the valet stand while waiting for our cars after we enjoyed a nice lunch on the patio. Oh, and the paparazzi came and we were definitely in the pictures with them. Pretty funny. I also volunteered at a celebrity golf tournament a few years ago and met all kinds of famous friends. I contemplated making the picture of Luke Wilson and I my Christmas card for that year - I fortunately decided against it however. The best celebrity meeting of all happened a few years back when I was an audience member for Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show. My mom and I were sitting in the front row and when the time came for a volunteer you better believe my hand shot straight up. Cut to Vince Vaughn himself picking me to come up on stage. So, as the story goes I introduced myself via microphone to Vince and the rest of the audience of 300 or 400. I proceeded to throw a big, red, dodge ball at Justin Long (you may recognize him from the movie "Dodgeball"). It was really cool to be able to do that and I'll remember it always. Mainly because I have a movie star crush on Vince Vaughn....but I digress.

Point being; running into, meeting or even seeing a "celebrity" in the real world is always cool and I've grown accustomed to it. I'm not a crazy-autograph-seeking-picture-taking-hyperventilating-fan....I just like to make a memory. And that's enough for me.

Since I have started school, I have been getting up waaaay early on Tuesday mornings since I go to school on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The weather has been really nice the last few weeks so it is nice and cool at 4:30 a.m. when I am out and about.

I'm looking forward to a cool down of the temperature though, it seems like it would be easier to run when it is cool - rather than blazing hot outside.

Today, I watched a video containing highlights of last year's Rock'n'Roll Las Vegas Marathon and I suddenly got really excited! Not that I wasn't excited before, but now it's setting in. Just a few more weeks and that will be me.

I'm also kind of starting to plan my outfit for the half marathon. Is it too soon to be doing that?! Ha. I just have to make a running fashion statement! : )
